Entrepreneurship and jobcreation

In Malawi it is estimated that the youth unemployment rate, which in this case refers to the share of the youth labor force without work but available for and seeking employment, is about 20 percent (ILO, 2017) Additionally, it is estimated that 90% of the youth do not have the necessary skills or training required for professional employment. (Malawi Youth status report, 2016). The Youth Economic Empowerment Program intend to target this challenges, and will within its capacity equip youth by providing them with necessary skills and

knowledge, and develop and strengthen their capacity to produce quality products

and services needed in their local communities and beyond. Thereafter it will

strive to empower the youth economically for them to create lasting

businesses, and become financially self-reliant.

The broad activities put in place to address the challenges mentioned above

are;

  • Organizing training workshops for youth in entrepreneurship to expose them

  • to modern skills needed for business management and creation.

  • Organize training for specific hands on technical skills in different fields.

  • Mobilize and follow up youth in Village Saving and Loans initiative, and provide loans to start up a business.

Most of the youth targeted are aged from 18-35, and will be both in school and out school youth.
